World Relief Refugee Resettlement
By donating funds, office space and staff time, Bellingham Covenant played an integral role in helping launch the World Relief Western Washington office, which is a Christian humanitarian organization that contracts with the federal government to resettle refugees around the country.
Formerly known as the Whatcom Refugee Resettlement Project, this organization officially became a new World Relief office (under the umbrella of World Relief Western Washington) in September 2021 and started receiving arrivals in December 2021!
Volunteer Opportunities
Since much of the funding for the resettlement of refugees in the U.S. has been ended, World Relief Western Washington has been rethinking it’s strategy. Right now the Whatcom office is not offering Cultural Orientation classes or helping families with resettlement, so they are not looking to fill previous volunteer roles. However, the local office is looking for ways to offer enrichment and services for all immigrants to our area. Stay tuned for when they will announce ways to be involved!
BCC partners with World Relief to help the the children of refugees prepare for school in the U.S. Last year we held two School Readiness Weeks, full of learning and activities, in August. Stay tuned for information sessions and training for this year’s School Readiness Program!
If you want to know more about current opportunities, see the information here or contact Missy Huegel.
