Movies & Video Resources

Movies are one way for us to enter into the stories of others.

The Long Obedience Team has sponsored several movie discussions and plans to do more. These are the movies we have discussed so far. Some are very difficult to watch and some may not be suitable for young viewers.

Just Mercy - a film based on an early case of Civil Rights Attorney Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Institute

Four Little Girls - a documentary about the murder of 4 little girls in the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL

The Hate You Give - a film based on the YA book by Angie Thomas about a Black girl who is a witness to a police officer killing her unarmed Black friend

Paper Children - a documentary about the experiences of a family from Guatemala seeking political asylum in the US. An inside look at the factors leading them to seek asylum, and the complexities facing people navigating the immigration system.
