WHY YOUTH GROUP MATTERS
Dear Parents bc|youth!
Jeff G and John here! We’ve been praying and planning like crazy these past few months! This coming school year is going to be, in our humble opinion, awesome!! We have some new and exciting things in the works for the school year!! But before we get to that, we wanted to send a quick letter of encouragement and challenge to you.
Our encouragement is pretty simple.
It’s a genuine thank you for all you’ve done to help make youth group matter to you and your child. We’re fully aware of how busy life is…and we LOVE how much you make youth group a priority! So thanks for
Our challenge is…well, more challenging!
We want to challenge you to help your child get to some of the programs and events we offer.
We strongly believe that youth group matters in the lives of your children! Studies show that there are multiple benefits of being involved in a church community. Here are some potential benefits of youth group:
Being around caring adults
Being valued by a church community
Serving others in need
Finding a constructive use of time
These are just a few of the internal and external developmental assets your child needs to help them become healthy, caring, and responsible adults.
Most important for us is finding ways of helping students know, understand, and grow in their relationship with Jesus.
Jesus never intended for us to live our Christian lives on our own. We are encouraged and challenged through Scripture to be in community with other followers of Christ. It’s because of this encouragement we spend a lot of time in groups here at bcc|youth.
The reason groups are so important to us is because they are an essential component for spiritual growth. Our ultimate hope and prayer for your child is that they would continue—at whatever level they are currently at—to grow in their understanding of who God is.
We pray that youth group, church involvement, and regular Bible reading become more and more a need that they have in their daily life for spiritual development.
I believe this can happen when we work together!
As a youth staff, we will work incredibly hard to make the youth group experience emotionally safe, fun, and engaging. We will also do all we can to make Christianity relevant in your kids life. We will continue to work with our youth staff and volunteers to make space for your child! Our volunteers will see your child, care for your child, and walk through this year with your child. We will do all we can to provide programs that make connections easy and set the table for strong friendships to be built. All so your children may grow in their relationship with Christ.
We will also give you resources throughout the year that will hopefully encourage and equip you! You will receive weekly updates on the teaching topics we're going through complete with scripture references and discussion questions you can use at home. Additionally, you will have the option to attend classes just for parents! Keep your eyes open for these great options!
Help your son or daughter be here as often as possible!
In order to grow in their relationships with God and with their peers, students need to put time in. Their relationship with God won’t just happen. They need to be intentional with their time. So help your children schedule their weeks in such a way that allows for time and space to be present—at whatever level—at the events and opportunities we offer.
If your son or daughter has already moved on from youth group or if they feel like they’ve been burned by someone at youth group, encourage them to give it another try…and not just for one week. Often times, it takes several weeks to build the trusting relationships they need from adults and peers. The good news is each new year brings opportunities to begin again!
We have such high hopes and dreams for what this school year might be for you and your children!!
We have been planning, creating, praying, and imagining a year that might just change their life.
We imagine group experiences where some of your children experience Christ’s forgiveness for the first time!
We imagine group experiences where Scripture is illuminated, so students might experience deep truth that transforms their thinking and behavior.
We imagine group experiences where they become best friends with someone else.
We imagine group experiences where students discover and grow in their passions, gifts, and skills.
Even though things are incredibly busy and hectic, our youth group, this little church-family of ours, can be the one thing that keeps them going.
Thanks for all the things you do to love and support your child!!
It’s an honor to be on this journey with you!
Jeff and John
