What is the Secret Sojourn?
The Secret Sojourn is a spiritual road trip. As the name implies, this event is intended to be somewhat of a secret to students. We don’t want our students to know too many of the details of the trip ahead of time. We do this for a few reasons. First, we’d like for the students to show up to the event with a great sense of anticipation and excitement. The second reason for the secrecy is to keep students guessing about what’s next—they will naturally be asking themselves questions like, “Where are we going?” “What are we doing when we get there?” “Will I like what’s next?” What if it’s not fun?” All of this anticipation allows them to use their imagination and it gives them time to enjoy the moments as they come up. Third, the element of surprise can be a great ally as we enter new/different experiences. When students are “thrown” into an experience without too much forethought they tend to give a more genuine response—which allows for great discussion and reflection. Welcome to our Secret Sojourn!!
